SSFA STAFF UNDER GO LIFE SAVING TRAINING

 

Samoa Aquatic Centre—Mon 25th May—Thurs 28th May 2011

SSFA had the privilege to train with surf life saving trainers Amelia Cole & Eldene O’shea from Surf Life Saving Australia.

The trainers areAustralian YouthAmbassadors forDevelopment (AYAD) which is a program funded by AUSAID.Amelia & Eldene will be working for the Samoa Tourism Authority for their assignments.

STA held a ceremony at the Samoa Aquatic Centre to introduce the SLS trainers.

The clinic which was run over a four dayperiod at the Samoa Aquatic

Centre included water safety & rescue and basicfirst aid.

Other participants of this clinic were from various hotels and Papase’ea   Sliding Rocks.

Rescues included pairing up and having onepartner pretend to drown while the other practiced both aided and unaided rescues on a conscious and unconscious person.

All participants were then given a practical exam on the final day whichincluded a 100m run –100m swim-100mrun, unaided and aidedrescues, 2 minute float or treading water and first aid CPR.

Both trainers found the aquatic centre anexcellent venue fortraining and are so far enjoying their time in Samoa.
